We are a group of more than 70 seniors of Indian origin living in the San Francisco Bay Area. We started playing Duplicate Bridge at India Community Center (ICC) in Milpitas in 2003. Arun Kumar, a Technologist (now retired), started this Bridge Club. We grew from a few players to about 20 over a few years.
Jaya Mehta, a lady with many leadership skills, started as a player. She patiently taught Bridge basics to many seniors at ICC over the years and grew the Bridge Club to more than 40 players.
We had many volunteers who helped with logistics of the club, which met three times a week at ICC. Some names are Anil Patel, Suresh Jalundhwala, Vasu Gandhi, and Shiva/Sandhya Prasad.
When Covid-19 hit, we moved all playing online. For many months, we played “Teams of 4” tournaments on Bridgebase.com twice a week. Then we discovered RealBridge, which adds audio and video. Players can now see each other when playing and also chat. It is almost like meeting at a club!
Arun Kumar is the overall Technical Director of our club. Jaya Mehta serves as our Chairwoman and ICC liaison.
Poker is our secondary game. Arun used to host home games for many years on Friday evenings. Now we have moved online to Pokerstars. Many players also play social Poker with chips and cards at India Community Center in Milpitas Tuesday afternoons. Jawahar Goel manages this activity.
Our members are also into music. Many enjoy singing. Jaya (we call her Jayaji as a sign of respect) teaches music as well. Arun plays various rhythm instruments.
We have many yoga teachers and enthusiasts in our group. Many foodies and excellent cooks too. We know how to have fun!
Arun Kumar is the Curator of this website.
